Steve Paveljack Retires from Eberl Iron Works, Inc. After 46 Years:
“We call him Iron Man,” says CFO Nora Eberl

Buffalo, NY — It was the year of the Rubik’s Cube. The “miracle on ice” won our hearts – and the gold medal – at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. We were listening to Blondie sing “Call Me” on the radio and we watched Raging Bull and Airplane! at the movies, and Dallas on TV. For Steve Paveljack, 1980 was the year that launched his career at Eberl Iron Works, Inc. (EIW).
After 46 years, Steve retired from EIW, the only employer in his successful career. A South Buffalo native, Steve joined EIW as a Machine Assistant in April 1980. It didn’t take long for Steve’s outstanding work ethic and professionalism to capture the attention of his supervisors: he was promoted to Machine Operator, the first of several roles he’d occupy. Every change brought new responsibilities and opportunities for growth. He developed an impressive body of knowledge about EIW’s products and how they lead the industry for quality and durability. He later moved from the Machine floor to become an Estimator, and later earned the Senior Estimator title.

George Eberl, who along with his brother Frank were the second generation owners of EIW, has many fond reflections of working with Steve. He said, “After Steve became a press brake operator and responsible for bending stairpans, he asked if it was okay to have a 3×5 card box at his work station to keep his own notes. I was very impressed with both this initiative and organization. He also assisted in the training of new employees in the operation of our machines. After more than 10 years of steel estimating, he notified me he had made a big mistake and wanted me to know immediately. I told him that unfortunately he did not break my own record for making the biggest estimating mistake. It took him over 20 more years to eventually meet and surpass my record. Steve was a dedicated, trustworthy employee and EIW was fortunate to have him on the team. Several times he personally was asked by customers if he was an Eberl family member.”

Steve began planning for his retirement in 2024 when he shifted into a part-time role. “Steve built his entire career with Eberl Iron Works,” said Co-owner and CEO John Eberl. “His loyalty and service to our family company is deeply appreciated. He chose to grow with our company and shared his knowledge and skills with our workforce. We’re grateful for his long service.”
Nora Eberl, Co-owner and CFO, said, “Steve is a wealth of knowledge about our products and how they serve our clients’ needs. We deeply appreciate his long tenure with us. He had an impact on three generations here, and his contributions to our company are very meaningful.”
Steve’s retirement means he’ll have more time to spend with his family, enjoying his garden, and taking drives through Western New York to enjoy the region’s spectacular sites.
His loyalty and service to our family company is deeply appreciated. He chose to grow with our company and shared his knowledge and skills with our workforce. We’re grateful for his long service.
