Tom Huber Retires After 45 Years at Eberl Iron Works, Inc.:
Wishing him success and happiness in his next chapter!

BUFFALO, NY – It’s a rare thing for an employee to build an entire career in one workplace. That’s exactly what Tom Huber did: he recently retired from Eberl Iron Works, Inc. (EIW) after a successful 45-year career.

A West Seneca resident, Huber was 19 years old when he joined EIW as a machine assistant. What began as a $4.50 gig following his graduation from West Seneca East High School evolved into a career punctuated by professional skill development, promotions, expansion, and a wealth of personal growth.  He said, “I was hired as a young kid, and became a man working for the Eberl Iron Work Team.”

Huber had a natural curiosity (his father taught him basic fabrication skills) and this early exposure to problem solving helped him meet the needs of a busy plant. He also has a strong work ethic which helped him earn promotions and the respect of his co-workers. Over time, he served as a welder, Chief Welder, plant lead, plant foreman, shipping director, plant superintendent, and safety director, often assuming dual roles. Ultimately, he was named Facilities Engineer in 2017 and remained in that role until his retirement.

His longevity with EIW means he is one of a few employees to serve under all three generations of leadership at the 103-year-old family business. John Eberl, Co-owner, said, “Our grandfather and our great uncle laid the groundwork for our company by hiring team members who wanted to grow with the company. That is Tom Huber.”

Huber was always eager to learn and contribute to the company’s output. Henry Leiner, a former co-worker who retired in 1989, said he enjoyed teaching Huber new skills in the plant, saying that Huber was ready to listen and learn. Dennis Barry, another retiree trained Huber to replace him as plant foreman and was proud to pass on this knowledge to someone so capable.

George Eberl, the second-generation Co-owner, said, “Given the opportunity at EIW, Huber was always able to find solutions to many unique problems. When the new plasma table was ordered, he leveled the floor, ordered the parts for the exhaust portion, assembled, and installed it, saving time and money for the company. Huber also had the unenviable task of becoming familiar with the newer CNC machinery’s electronic control boards and their peculiarities.” As the company continued to expand, Huber also readied the new facilities at 103 Sycamore Street in Buffalo and 1800 Dale Road in Cheektowaga for use.

Outside of work, Huber used his fabricating skills to create or repair specialty items, too, including decorative benches for Frank Eberl’s cottage.

Huber’s retirement means he will have more time to spend at his home farm and vegetable garden: he’s an avid and long-time gardener.
