George Eberl celebrates 40th Anniversary at Eberl Iron Works
Sep 16 2010

Please join us in congratulating George J. Eberl, Co-Owner, on 40 years of service to Eberl Iron Works (EIW)! George has had a long and varied career at EIW, and he’s still going strong!

As soon as George was old enough to hold a broom, he was employed as a floor sweeper at Eberl Iron Works. As a Canisius College student George worked part time as a Shear Helper and Painter. It was in September, 1970 he became a full time employee. In January, 1971 George was promoted to EIW Estimator, Inventory Purchaser and Shop Floor Manager. He proceeded to take adult education welding and drafting courses. In December 1982, George became President of Eberl Iron Works, while his brother Frank became President of Unistrut Buffalo (which has since merged into EIW). From 1988- 1989, George and Frank developed plans for the first expansion of our building in over 55 years.

During their tenure, two more divisions were added to EIW – Systems Installation in 1991 and Traffic Safety Products in 2003.

In February, 1993, George attended his first Fabricators and Manufacturers Association (FMA) Safety Meeting. In October 1996, he attended his first FMA Board of Directors Meeting. George served as FMA’s Board Chairman from 2002-2003.

In 2009, George and Frank again developed plans for an addition – this time an 8,600 square foot warehouse addition, which was completed in January, 2010.

During the 1970’s, George began hiring EIW staff. He credits his success with finding ”some very good people who wanted to stay, learn, and participate in the growth of Eberl Iron Works, Inc. This is my number one accomplishment.”

George is not only active at Eberl Iron Works, he also is active in his community. He has served as President of the Canisius College Alumni Association, President of the Canisius High School Board of Governors, Board Chair of the Sisters Hospital Foundation, Board Chair of the Trocaire College Board of Trustees, Member of the Nardin Academy Board of Trustees and President of the Buffalo Executives Association.
